Up until recently, it had been so hot and dry in Miami that my landscape was truly a depressing sight. But my plants were thirsty and so was I! I grabbed a 2018 A to Z Wineworks Riesling to pass the time faster while watering my plants.

I tried their Pinot Gris way back, so I was curious about this one, especially after seeing it in the grocery store for a while.

A to Z Wineworks was started in 2002 by four friends, Oregon wine industry veterans, Deb Hatcher (Eyrie), Bill Hatcher (Domaine Drouhin Oregon), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit), and Cheryl Francis (Chehalem). The two couples worked in the Hatcher’s kitchen to build the original blend honored by Food & Wine magazine as the Best American Pinot Noir under $20. In 2006, the group welcomed another Oregon wine veteran, Michael Davies, as winemaker, and partnered with Gregg Popovich (Coach of the San Antonio Spurs) to buy REX HILL Vineyards and Winery (established in 1982).

This wine was light straw in color with flecks of green. It had a nice aroma of white flowers, citrus, and honey. On the palate, it was off-dry with notes of grapefruit, apricot, and ripe apple with a nice acidity and slight sweetness. Even though I was craving a German Riesling, this one brought a different set of flavors to the table and was enjoyable. You could find it online for about $15. I bought it at my local Publix.
