In 2003, Wisconsin natives Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel left their corporate jobs and moved to Walla Walla to fulfill their dream of crafting world-class wine. With a whole lotta love and Washington State grapes, they created Dusted Valley and Boomtown.
Chad and Corey work with the vineyard managers from McNary Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA and Two Gun Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA to control and guide the process at every step – from vineyard to bottle.
The Cabernet Sauvignon was deep ruby with a hint of purple. It had a stong dark fruit nose, with plum, cherry, and blackberry jam. Dark fruit traveled to palate with slight vanilla and cocoa, and it was dry with nice tannins. It was smoother than Napa Cabs, but had a delightful flavor.
At roughly 20,000 cases, Boomtown is available through fine restaurants and wine retailers throughout the country with current offerings including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and a Red Blend. I found it at ABC Fine Wine and Spirits for $15.99.
